HBCU Esports Alliance Launches “The Yard” Spring Leagues on AVGL

Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) Esports Alliance (HEA) have launched their first-ever Spring League Season on the AVGL platform!

Featuring students from the 20-member and 1-conference collaborative of HBCU, the league season will run through early May.

HEA is an initiative designed to drive diversity and inclusion in the gaming and esports industry. They currently have four pillars of activation: competition, education, research, and pipeline. The collaboration with AVGL will support HEA in tournament organization and content promotion by utilizing automated features on the AVGL platform.

THE YARD: OFFERED ESPORTS SCHOLARSHIPS

“The Yard” commemorates the rich legacy of HBCU campus life; working closely with HBCU, the HEA aims to provide an understanding of the esports ecosystem and the vast opportunities it presents for its students. By doing so, the HEA will be able to achieve its long-term goal: create lasting experiences for HBCU’s past, present, and future students.

Presented by Gillette, students from HEA member schools and the CIAA will be able to compete for a chance to win a portion of over $30,000 in scholarships and prizes. Beginning in April, students participating in the NASCAR Heat 5 and PGA 2K21 tournaments will have an opportunity to win $250 per game each week. Other featured game titles are Madden NFL 21 in Yard Mode, NBA 2K21, and Rocket League.

The Spring League schedule:

  • Monday: Madden NFL 21 in Yard Mode
  • Tuesday: NBA 2K21 and PGA 2K21
  • Wednesday: Rocket League and Nascar Heat5 (early April)
  • Saturday: Highlight recap show, hosted by Atlanta’s Fly Guy DC
