SSAC and AVGL Launch High School Esports Program in Florida

Offerings include high school esports program support and events

Sunshine State Athletic Conference (SSAC) is partnering with AVGL, a leading scholastic esports organization, to launch an extensive series of esports events and program support for SSAC high school conference members.

The SSAC is an athletic conference providing over 150 high schools across Florida with access to high-quality competition for multiple sports. The partnership helps provide critical opportunities to engage students during a time when many high school sports programs have been canceled due to Covid-19.

“Like any high school sport, esports promotes character development, teamwork and communications skills,” said Stuart Weiss, President, SSAC. “In addition, esports appeals to a diverse range of students who may not otherwise be engaged with school activities. We’re excited to provide our members with premium esports opportunities to continue SSAC’s legacy of high-quality athletic support.”

The High School Esports Program in Action

The partnership will include a combination of program and STEM support to help high schools grow their esports programs, offer structured competitive seasons, and a platform for schools to build their own communities and events. SSAC’s members will also receive exclusive benefits to AVGL’s Intel Inspires series, a recruitment pipeline that provides high schools with access to $250k in scholarships per season.

“We’re excited to provide the guidance, events and tools to enable SSAC schools to create a custom esports approach that benefits their students,” said Kyle Soo Hoo, Head of High School for AVGL/BoomTV. “Our focus will always be to put the students at the center of esports opportunities and bridge the gap between high school and the career pipeline.”

The initiative will launch in the winter season with a series of tournaments, alongside close consultation with schools to guide the program approach.
